Institute of Psychological & Educational Research is a voluntary and non-profiting registered society and is recognised by both Central and State Government and enjoys Income Tax Exemption under section 80G. IPER is the brainchild of the eminent educationist Dr. Arun Ghosh who has given it its present status along with the patronization of some fellow University teachers and its staff members. IPER started functioning in the year 1972 and since then it exerted its earnest effort for the benefit of the mankind. To achieve the desired goal IPER passes through many adverse situations. But it never gave up its inherent urge to attain success. For thousands of children poverty, hunger and disease are everyday realities. These children are exposed to intense and multiple risks to physical and mental health, together with an
inability to withstand such risks. They are suffering from many and multifarious crisis. The crisis of development, healthy living, nourishment and the health care. These children are deprived of education, healthy recreation or any kind of social participation. They are growing up without proper shelter from heat, cold and rain and clothes. Even they are not fully aware of their basic needs and rights. IPER has got a well-established infrastructure with a habilitation programme for around 3000 street and working children. We try to make our programme as child friendly as possible. First we identify the most vulnerable child, who may be an orphan or a child with single parent or a child from a dysfunctional family or simply a pavement child. Then we bring him/ her to our day care centre and try to identify his/her most urgent need - be it nutrition, health care or schooling. Under IPER's guidance the child gradually becomes aware of his/her situation and start cooperating and adapting to the environment he or she is living.
IPER has got a well-established infrastructure where already the habilitation programme for around 3000 street and working children is being run. The provision for education, nutrition and health care has been made for these children with fund raised from both national and international sources.
You are invited to join the team of these benevolent donors and sponsors to support one or more children that you may feel like doing. If you decide to sponsor a child we will provide you with a list of such children from out of which you can select one. If you sponsor one child from among them you will be instrumental to the saving of at least one helpless child from the spectre of total deprivation and ensure a hopeful future for him or her. We the people of IPER are thus in a continuous process of being with the underprivileged section of the community, especially the women and children in the
effort to improve their situation. Through our long journey of service towards the deprived and the destitute we felt that these services need to take a permanent and continuous shape. And it is from the urge of ours developed the Sponsorship Programme. IPER's Sponsorship Programme started in the month of February 2001 because of a tremendous zeal and enthusiasm shown by a few visiting students of Social Work from the Diakonia Polytechenique of Helsinki, Finland. These students who select India and IPER as the place of their practical work usually stay for 3 months and continuously interact with the children and thus develop a very intimate relationship with them. It was basically under the leadership of two students who did the initial framework and the Sponsorship Programme took a wider shape in their hand. These students arranged for the sponsors, collected the sponsorship grant and began sending them to IPER. IPER's Sponsorship Programme is now two years old. At present we have 60 children sponsored both by local and foreign sponsors. But the need is much more! We are catering to almost 3000 children from the under-privileged section through different welfare programmes of IPER which is much short of the requirement.
It is through the sponsorship programme that we try to meet these basic needs of the child that is his/ her need for Education, Health care and Nutrition.
