Volunteers

Present Programme
IPER has a number of volunteers in the children’s programme both from within the country and outside. These volunteers range from those who just completed School to those who have retired from their profession. Their activities also range from teaching to facilitating cultural activities like mime, drama, formation of musical band, craft work building of self-esteem of the target group.

Volunteers are encouraged to exchange cultural experiences and their expertise in the development and enrichment of the work carried out by IPER.

Contribution of books, toys, items of us for children and women are accepted on certain conditions. For the purpose one has to contact IPER.

Presently volunteers are coming from Teach India Programme of The Times of India, Hindusthan UNI Lever Ltd., GAP GURU, I-To-I and many other Corporate Houses.

Codes / Rules to be observed by the Volunteers to IPER

  1. Report at IPER/Centre allotted at the scheduled time given to the volunteer or at 10.30 a.m. on the working days assigned to her/him.
  2. Regularity in attendance is requested; absences, if any, must be notified stating the reason for the same, prior to the period of absence except in cases of emergencies.
  3. All children should be treated with respect and they should be listened to.
  4. The privacy of the children and other beneficiaries should be respected and no photos should be taken without the permission of IPER authorities.
  5. No discrimination should be made on the basis of race, colour, gender, caste, language, religion, or any other form.
  6. Personal visits to the homes of the children are not allowed without prior intimation to the project staff of IPER.
  7. No gifts or money should be given to children or they should not be taken for any outing without prior permission of the Director/Executive Director of IPER.
  8. No address or phone number may be exchanged between children and volunteers as this has led to various complications in the past.
  9. Inappropriate physical contact or physical intimacy with children should be avoided like hugging, kissing, carrying them on the lap, and similar behaviours.
  10. In case of any difficulty in working the volunteers must immediately report to the Executive Director of the Institute and in case of her absence to the Supervisor of her work.
  11. Volunteers are expected to dress in keeping with the Indian social and cultural conditions like sari, salwar kameez with dupatta or pants with long shirts/tops or in a dress which is acceptable to Indian society.
  12. In case the Volunteer is given any assignment she / he must complete it within the stipulated time frame.
  13. No drinking of alcohol or smoking is allowed within the premises of IPER or at Community Centres.
  14. Culturally accepted behaviours are expected.
  15. All volunteers/visitors must abide by the ‘Child Protection Policy’ of IPER.

Resource Centre of IPER

Fourteen Resource Centres have been organized by IPER under different projects in the community for the neo-literates and others. These Resource Centres set up in the local youth clubs are managed by the people from the community and function as reading libraries in the locality.
IPER also functions as a Resource Centre for the trainees and students of Social Work, Management, Mass Communication, Journalism, Sociology, Counselling and Applied Psychology for their exposure, practical training and dissertation work. Besides students from Indian Universities quiet a number of trainees from UK, Finland, the Netherlands, France, USA and other countries attend the different programme of IPER every year. They participate in the different programme of IPER and attend classes held with children, work with their families. Many of them also work in the Health Unit of IPER as well as with Drug-addicts and alcoholics who visit IPER Anti-Drug Unit.
