SPECIAL SCHOOLS FOR CHILD LABOUR – (National Child Labour Project)
Project activities:
1) Bridge education through 7 special schools for child labours;
2) Nutritional
supplementation;
3) Payment of Rs.100 as stipend in the bank Account of the child;
4)
Mainstreaming to formal schools with required support.
5) Sports and cultural meets.
Objective:To abolish child labour with a suitable rehabilitation programme through education.
Beneficiaries: 350 children withdrawn from labour market

Funding agency: Ministry of Labour, GoI, DM of South 24 Parganas and Department of Labour, Govt. of West Bengal
Significant achievements:
1) Mainstreaming of more than 3000 child labourers to formal schools;
2) Created awareness against child labour in the area where the Special Schools are running. |

INTEGRATED PROGRAMME FOR STREET CHILDREN
Project activities:
1) Providing education, nutrition and health care to the children who are residing on pavements;
2) Community mobilization for safety of street children;
3) Provision for safe drinking water;
4) Provision for sanitation and hygiene.
Objective: Preventing destitution amongst these children and facilitating their placement in the social mainstream for their full and wholesome development
Beneficiaries: 500+ children
Location: KMC Wards 65, 67, 69, 81, 84, 86, 93 & 94 Started in 1998
Current status: Continuing

Significant achievements:
Every year nearly 150 children are mainstreamed, regular mothers’ meetings are held.
CHILDLINE- 1098

Project activities: Attending to distress calls on 1098 from children
Objective: To reach out to children in crisis in south Kolkata referred by the collaborative agencies
Beneficiaries: Average 30 children per month
Location: Southern parts of Kolkata till Baruipur
Started in: September 1999 & Child Development, Government of India
Significant achievements:
Carried out treatment and accidental cases for many vulnerable children, the average intervention is more than 1000 per year. Created significant awareness on CHILDLINE 1098 services in Police Stations, Schools, Recreational Centres, Hospitals, Bus, Auto and Tram Termini. |

Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drugs) Abuse
Project activities:
Two out-patient centres renders three services namely counseling, awareness building and referral for availing indoor treatment are provided to the addicts brought to the centres by social workers or to the patients coming independently. Counseling sessions both individual and family are held regularly, awareness generation programmes, referral services and follow up and home visits are carried out for the clients.
Objective: To prevent and detoxify the patients with free medicines and counselling services to drug addcts and alcoholics
Beneficiaries: Average 35/40 addicted clients per month

Project activities:
1) Baseline survey in 4 Wards in Maheshtala Municipality
2) Bridge education through 5 Community Learning Centers for drop out and never been school children
3) Installation of 5 CRCs in the formal schools
4) Formation of Children’s Peer Group in the 5 CLCs
5) Remedial teaching to 100 children in the formal schools
6) Formation of PAC with women
7) Organising Special events7)organize health education and awareness on major preventable illness in women and children
8) Formation of peer groups with women as ‘Peer Advocate Corps’ (PAC)
Objective:
To generate awareness on the rights of children and women and to remove prevailing superstitions and myths
Beneficiaries: 200 never-been-to-school children and drop out children (6 to 12 years) and 100 women
